According to Henry Lawson 'if you know Bourke, you know Australia'......... I am not sure we really know Bourke but we have spent a couple of days here and this is what we found out:
1. The Darling River is teaming with bird life and fairly full. We enjoyed our trip on the paddleboat Jandra.
2. Fred Hollows is buried in Bourke
3. You can only buy light beer before 2 pm.
4. Percy Hobson from Bourke was the first aboriginal to win a gold medal (he was a high jumper)
5. The main street in Bourke is all boarded and shuttered up even during the day.
6. Archie is the expert bike rider on 2 wheels and he is encouraging Bridie to learn from the expert!
7. The man in the bottlo serves you behind bars and cage.
8. In caravan parks where you choose your own sites if you leave the kids bikes out for all to see no one parks anywhere near you.......(we have a whole row to ourselves and everyone else is on top of each other).
